The great whale emerges from the deep…
I wanted to strike a mythical tone with this one - as if it were the picture cunjured up after overhearing a sailer's strange tale in some firelit tavern. A print of an original pen and ink illustration which was then painted digitally. Daily DeviationGiven 2009-04-13With Leviathan Strikes, ~matt-brown has managed to portray a beast that looks, paradoxically, both menacing and friendly at once!! That, coupled with muted colors and a storybook style that is also reminiscent of wood-cut work, makes this illustration a charming and captivating piece of art.
